Pro street snowboarder Jordan Small is king of the tailgate, so we sat down with him to steal some of his favorite beer-inspired recipes. Now, we’re passing them along so you can leave an impression at the next cookout.

First up, we’re learning how to make beer-braised brats.

Ingredients

  • Six-pack 805 Beer
  • Bratwurst sausages
  • Bratwurst rolls
  • One large white onion
  • One green bell pepper
  • Condiments of choice — we recommend mustard, ketchup, or Thousand Island sauce

Recipe

  1. Pour two 805 Beers into a large pot and bring to boil. Once boiling, add bratwurst.
  2. Boil brats for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to ensure they don’t stick to the pot.
  3. Once boiled, remove brats from pot.
  4. Place brats over medium-high heat in a cast iron or on a grill.
  5. Grill brats on for 5 minutes or until browned. Flip brats over and grill for an additional 5 minutes.
  6. While brats grill, wash the fresh produce. Peel and slice the onion. Slice the green pepper.
  7. Add olive oil to pan over medium-high heat. Once heated, add pepper and onion. Sauté for 5-10 minutes.
  8. Add buns to grill to lightly toast and get some grill marks.
  9. Remove buns from grill and build your beer brat. Add bratwurst, onions and peppers, and the condiment of your choice.
  10. Crack an 805 Beer and enjoy.

In Episode 1, he’s hanging out with pro mountain biker Ryan “R-Dog” Howard to crack beers and cook up some brats after a day on the trail.
